The Trū Players bring you a beautiful story enacted on stage, involving costumes, drama, music, and dance.
This year the Trū Players will celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country by enacting a performance of We Made the Law, an original play documenting the history of the US Constitution as it was created, interpreted, and amended over time. Our young performers will apply their ever-growing talent to this dramatic story of power, idealism, and often moral frailty. Who would be included in this country and who would not? When should the government have power, and when should it be stopped? How can the people preserve the sense of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” when they are so frequently tempted to deprive each other? Covering centuries of strife, including a deadly civil war, the story will remind us of the sacrifice and dedication required to achieve a nation based on human rights.
Our benefit partner this year is the American Constitution Society (acslaw.org), the nation's foremost progressive legal nonprofit organization with nearly 250 student and lawyer chapters across the nation. Their mission is to support and advocate for laws and legal systems that redress the founding failures of our Constitution, strengthen our democratic legitimacy, uphold the rule of law, and realize the promise of equality for all, including people of color, women, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and other historically excluded communities.
